Mélissa Berthet

I am a postdoc in the Comparative Communication and Cognition Group lead by Simon Townsend at the University of Zurich.

During my postdoc, I investigate the extent to which bonobos combine vocal units into larger structures (e.g., sounds into calls or calls into phrases). The ultimate goal of this project is to compare combinatorial capacities of bonobos to that of their closest relatives, the chimpanzees. Data collection is performed at the Kokolopori Bonobo Research Project, Democratic Republic of Congo.
