I am a PhD student at the Department of Comparative Linguistics, University of Zürich, with a background of evolutionary linguistics and linguistic typology. My PhD project largely focuses on exploring the structural rules and evolutionary trends of word orders in the world’s languages. I am trying to investigate the syntactic regularities by (1) comparing the observed results from large annotated corpora (treebanks) with various random baselines, and (2) modelling the evolution of certain typological traits over thousands of years via Bayesian phylogenetic inference, so as to reveal the universals and variation across different language families.
