All PhD students and postdocs are entitled to a personal UZH webpage linked to the staff overview on the DCLS website. Therefore, you are obliged to prepare:

  • A short text describing your research requiring more general information that will not require an update every year.
  • Links to other pages related to you and your work (e.g Academia.edu, ResearchGate, ORCiD etc.)
  • A registration on ORCiD
  • A picture of yourself (optional)

Data Management

 

All staff members must ensure the security of their data (both personal and project data) by performing regular backups and by storing their recordings, annotations, scripts, etc. in appropriate places (i.e. project file shares, SWITCHdrive, UZH GitLab , etc.). Project data should be stored where it can be easily shared with/accessed by other project members. See the DCLS pages about Backups and Version control .

Incentive Flight Tax / Lenkungsabgabe

 

On the 1st October 2022, the Faculty Assembly has decided to introduce an Incentive Flight Tax. This tax is applied to all booked flights at the University of Zurich. Its aim is to reduce the amount of used flights during the year and to promote travelling by train. Therefore, you are obliged to record the flights you book with the ClimateSmart Travel tool (online from 4 October 2022). Please, read the instructions carefully and speak to your group leader before booking a flight.

Information AFL / AND

 

The DCLS has two locations where its staff members are working at. AND stands for Andreasstrasse 15, 8050 Zürich and you will find our offices on the 4th floor. AFL stands for Affolternstrasse 56, 8050 Zürich and you will find our offices on the 5th floor.  Both are located in Oerlikon (ZH), so called "Campus Oerlikon".  You need your UZH card to get access to the offices.

LiRI is a Technology Platform to serve the needs of linguistic research at UZH, Switzerland and beyond

 

IT regulations

 

The use of hardware and software within the UZH - but also outside for the benefit of the UZH - is subject to regulations and specifications set out in various documents. The scope of application is not limited to regular or temporary employees, but also to third parties working with UZH data, services and equipment. Please have a look at the page "Getting Started" by the Central IT of UZH for general information regarding passwords, login credentials and VPN.

 

REIM
The "Regulations on the Use of IT Resources at the UZH" (Reglement über den Einsatz von Informatikmitteln an der UZH, REIM) regulate the responsibilities, the conditions of use and the measures against and in the event of misuse. It applies to all persons (internal or external to UZH) who use IT resources at UZH.


NBS
The "Standards for the Operation of Systems at UZH" (Normen für den Betrieb von Systemen an der UZH, NBS) contains implementation rules for the regulations listed in the document REIM. It therefore also applies to all users of IT resources at UZH.

 

Declaration of confidentiality by UZH

For employees of the UZH as an institution under public law, official secrecy applies as a duty of confidentiality within the scope of employment. Further duties may be added according to the assigned tasks. The document "Declaration of confidentiality" describes these obligations and can be used as a form with which third parties (students, interns, guest account users, etc.) acknowledge these obligations by signing it in the event of collaboration.

Corporate Design

All members of the University of Zurich and therewith members of the Department of Comparative Language Science (DCLS) are obliged to follow the guidelines of the internal Corporate Design (in German only). Under the link, you will find templates that correspond with the defined guidelines. If you cannot find the template you need, please, contact their support via e-mail or plattform.

Violation of the guidelines might have severe legal consequences not only for the individual, but for the Department of Comparative Language Science (DCLS) as well.

Ethical restrictions

Please consider the ethical restrictions of the Faculty of Arts when planning and conducting your research. Not all research is to be checked by the ethics committee but some (especially if your research includes working with children) is. Find the guidelines for ethics (in German only) under this link.

Please, consider the dates for the submission of your research interest carefully and plan ahead.

Equipment

While working at the DCLS, you have the possibility to become equipped with material that you need for your daily administrative work or your related field work. Both, the IT-material (laptops, screens, streamcams etc.) and your fieldwork material can be ordered via the admin team (admin@ivs.uzh.ch).

The objects you are borrowing while working at the DCLS will be entered into a list, mentioning you as the responsible person or research group, if the object will be used within the group after you left your position.

Please note that the material we are lending to you has to be treated carefully. Costs for damaged material may apply.
