Nicole Tamer, MPhil
PhD student
Distributional Linguistics Lab
I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Zurich researching language evolution. I am interested in the role of arbitrariness in human and animal communication.
I’m working at the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Evolving Language, a nationwide interdisciplinary research consortium. We aim to solve one of humanity’s great mysteries: How did our species develop the capacity for linguistic expression, processing language in the brain, and consistently passing down new variations to the next generation? How will our capacity for language change in the face of digital communication and neuroengineering?
